ABOUT

I was born and raised in the Scottish Borders surrounded by rolling hills, forests and lochs. My dad would take me out to explore the wildlife around us and would often have a camera with him.

As a child I had almost every bird and mammal book on the shelf and loved looking at the illustrations and photographs of what were exotic birds to me, the Kingfisher, Waxwing and Magpie.

It was during these walks that I developed a passion for the natural world which would stay with me for the rest of my life.

Photography came much later in life during a career in the British Army which gave me access to a Nikon D200 and 600mm prime lens. The joy of pointing that wieldy lump of glass at a distant Robin and getting a photo hooked me instantly.

During that career I spent 15 years as an Army Photographer shooting all manner of subjects from people to equipment, combat to PR, celebrities to Royals and many others but it was always wildlife that gave me the most joy.

My training in the Army also taught me video and gave me some fantastic opportunities one of which led to me working for Pro Wildlife Photographer Andy Rouse as a Safari guide in Africa and India.

He has taught me a lot about the life of a pro wildlife photographer and how to lead tours, something I will always be grateful for.
